Yesterday marks the official end of the academic year for me! No more coursework until September! I've been running like at a break-neck pace for the last few months with a million things on my plate (coursework, thesis vetting process, research for professor, publications, and 2 consulting projects). I was only getting by with 4-5 hrs of sleep per night for the last week or so. My final paper required a 19hr writing marathon. I was unfamiliar with the topic, so it was more difficult than the other papers. But it did secure the All-Around Olympic gymnastic gold medal for me because I became the only geek to get A+ on all four assignments in that course. Nadia Commaneci, eat your heart out!
Unlike most people I know in grad school, I actually don't really agonize over grades. It's just so "high school." As a grad student, who cares if it's A-, A, A+? Just give me the fuckin' PhD! I'm far more interested in my own learning process, growth & development. The only reason I'm writing about my All-Around gold medal is because this professor has a notoriously high standard and an impressive international stature. A "B" in her class is more like an "A" in other classes. So I'm quite honored to receive this gold medal :)
In the next few days, I can finally begin to pursue some things I want to do this summer. Grad school commitments are never going to disappear completely, but at least I don't have to crank out papers and be graded!
Off to buy tickets for the Toronto International Film Festival! Yes, it doesn't start until Sept but the ticketing process is a mind fuck. More on that later...
