okie dokie... I guess I will tell you all about my
exciting trip.
Day1: (thursday) I stopped in seaside to see a little
show in a record store... (gileah and friends)
the show itself was awkward and
uncomfortable for me, but I really enjoyed the
company...spent a few mins on the beach at night,
under some scant stars,
how nice...then (same night) on to panama city for a show in a pizza
parlor... this show was excellent and wonderful...
the highlights being the Deli Rigger and Jen Thomas,
and I had the most delicious vegan pizza...divine.
stayed the night with a newish friend Chesley, who I'm
going to ask to come out and play in niceville maybe
next month. he and his girlfriend are just so nice
and warm, they make me happy.
Day Two: (friday) brunch with an old
high school friend at a little sandwich shop in panama city
I'd never been to, lovely all around, tuna sandwich/lemon-squash
soup/caramel cake. then drove on to tallahassee. went to an FSU
class with my sister, saw my friend's new baby, which
was pretty amazing (I wrote a song about it all).
tallahassee is pretty much dead in the summer, gail
says they call it "sleepy hollow" and we can see why...
Day Three: (saturday) woke up, took a nap, saw
another old friend very briefly (oh how nice it is to
have old friends), he works in a magic card shop,
saw the hotel where my sister
works, had some truly amazing chai iced tea at the park at
lake ella, where there were some hilarious old timey looking
people singing "amazing grace" with an accordion,
ate solo at golden corral (it was fish
night, yum), then saw a surf rock show at the american
legion at lake ella, what a beautiful room, wood panels everywhere,
and a disco ball. the music started out as "exciting"
and progressed to "tiresome," but it was fun, and I
chatted with the band. (one of the guys was named
George Dyal, which struck me as an interesting name,
and also an appropriate one for the tall somewhat
gawky man). then I ended up at a beer party, which
was crowded and very loud. whatever was in that keg
was really tasty. I ended up sitting in the corner
talking to my sister and reading catcher in the rye
(it had been a few years), I made it 16 pages in.
slept again on gail's floor (in my brother's old,
now empty unrented room) then left the next day...
(saw mike at the card shop again on the way out)
overall the trip was amazingly well paced with one
activity following the next, never a dull moment,
and the driving was spread out and perfectly enjoyable.
