As this Journal's title says...

I really am working on it. Starting around the night of June 4th - right after Lena and Elisabeth arrived at the beach - I started churning out hand-written stuff for Pirates like mad. Not just bits, pieces, and random notes - I'm talking about big blocks of prose that I'm actually proud of. I haven't been this excited for months! And it's all because of a revelation I had that night a few weeks back.

So I'm expanding FATE/SotC-style character creation into a collaborative setting generating engine. For months and months I was trying to come up with something that could help other people build the kind of RPG campaign that my friends and I were lucky enough to stumble upon in high school. On June 4th, I figured out that I was cleaving too close to that original model and stifling not only the potential creativity of future players, but my own as well.

I need to digress a bit to explain: In our campaign, our pirate crew was at odds with a conspiracy with it's claws in the heart of the interstellar. I kept trying to come up with a character/setting creation phase that would give a game master all the parts necessary to build a conspiracy. And it was alright, I guess. But on June 4th I said to myself, "Why am I trying to shoehorn conspiracies into my space pirate game?" So I took a step back, realized that defining authorities was what I wanted to do all along. Hey - the conspiracy at the heart of the government is a kind of authority. *smack* And the prose has been flowing ever since.

More soon, I promise.
