Oh, I love it. All the details and the journal entries were so sad and beautiful (and made me smile - WWI!Zach doesn't use caps lol), and I love their first meeting!
And I really liked that Zach is sometimes switching to French for a couple of words, shows he's been there quite some time. And the details you put in there, which one wouldn't need for the plot (like the bakery paddle thing for the laundry), but make the story that much more interesting and colorful.

Aww this is cute. And very interesting that it began with the journal entries but then went to normal narration.

I was a little surprised that you made Chris (and Zach too) that young, but not negatively. And he also seems so young... rather innocent really *g* They both seem to be in character but transferred to what I could imagine them being like in that time, talking like people back then and so on...

And forgive me, getting too tired here to write proper reviews and make any sense ;)

Liking this so far. :)

love the descriptions of the journal and the handwriting (which the art brings beautifully to life), the period phrases ("golly"), and the fact that the journal definitely sounds like zach, ha ha!! - "candles, voices, prayers. surge of faithful humanity bearing us all along" - expect him to be tweeting that any day now...

ohh, thank you! yeah, honestly the journal parts were by far the easiest to write. his voice just translates really well to that genre.

it still surprises me to see the handwriting (it's mine)- i see it, and am all, "wait, why is that on my screen...?" lol.

I can't believe how beautiful this is right from the get go. The journal seems so very Zach. Broken sentences. No caps. No punctuation. But for all of that it seems so him.

I also love the fact that Chris, before he even knows him as such, captures his attention. He comments little on others in the ward, but Chris still hold his interest.

I fell right into the images of what everyone and everything looks like. The feeling is so strong.

The shaving was intimate and lovely and guhhh, I shouldn't think it's so sexy but I can't help myself.

And I could really see their personalities shine through, mixed with how long they've been a part of this war. Chris, young and gung ho. Twinkling eyes and bright smile. And Zach, weary and reserved, sort of accepting of what just is, but still he has heart. Just beautiful so far.

oh, thank you. :)

yeah, the journal entries were my favorite, and the easiest for me to do. (though the day before i posted, i had to go back through and make all the caps lowercase, which took for bloody fucking ever. but... it had to be. otherwise it was just less zach, you know?)

and yes. shaving? so. hot.
