[zjendjan]

Zjendjan is sitting outside, close to the mansion, but hopefully hidden behind a bush, staring intently at a poppy.  There were poppies outside his house in Podlasye.  His older sisters used to make them into wreaths and force him to wear them when he was younger and his brothers would laugh at him and then he would get upset until his mother gave

"...Hi."

[zjendjan]

He smiles and tries to hide the flower. "Hi."

[onlymary]

Cue self-conscious blush. It's something all thirteen-year-old girls are wont to do. "What're you doing?"

[zjendjan]

And Zjendjan just goes around in a permanent state of semi-pinkness. "Thinking."

[onlymary]

"Oh." Mary knows it isn't polite to pry, and so she stands there and chews her lip, awkwardly.

[zjendjan]

After a moment, he looks up at her. "Yes?"

[onlymary]

She jumps a little, startled, realizing she must have been staring daydreaming. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt."

[zjendjan]

"It's alright, you weren't. I need to stop thinking anyway."

[onlymary]

"Sometimes thoughts crowd your head and keep you from doing the things you thought you could never do."

[zjendjan]

"Mmm. That's happened here already."

[onlymary]

"How do you mean?"

[zjendjan]

"Oh. I've done things I never thought I'd do."

[onlymary]

"Like what?" Mary already envies him. She hasn't done much of import around here.

[zjendjan]

"Ah." He turns a darker shade of pink. "I... I'd rather not say. Especially to a lady." Why does almost every conversation he tries to have get to what he has to do with his new masters?

[onlymary]

"Are they bad things?"

[zjendjan]

"They're... improper."
