Life is unfair

Zjendjan finally did it. His network of connections and crossed sides finally worked against him and pissed someone off. In fact, it pissed someone off enough to kill him. (It probably didn't help that Zjen started getting mad back at Freyr ( Read more... )

Cimorene has just finally gotten up the spirit to come back to the Mansion after seeing Mordred murdered. They're almost out of sugar, with all the pies she's been making, and she needs to patch a shirt she ripped while climbing a tree.

She almost smiles as she sees him, figuring that sleeping on a table is a very Zjendjan thing to do, but the second look reveals that he's lying too still and in a position that he shouldn't be.

She swears low but loud, backing away. Cimorene may never come to the Mansion again, at this rate.

Beatrice doesn't know who the young man on the table is, but Cimorene obviously does, and his neck is in a very bad position. "Oh, no." Not again. "Is he..."

She nods. "Yeah. He is."

She swallows. "You know him." Shock makes you state the obvious. "What - what should we do?"

She shakes her head. "They come back. Mordred came back. So there's no sense burying him."

"We could - cover him. With a sheet or something."

"Maybe we should. But... maybe other people will need to know he's dead, too."

"I guess. Do you think we're the first to find him?"

*whether they're the first or not, there's about to be at least a third--John barely gives the women a glance, but he catches sight of the boy's blond hair and then looks up at Cimorene and Beatrice again* Shit.

She looks back at him. This is actually less severe than what Cimorene said at first, but she's shoving the anger away for fear of letting it out. "I just found him a minute or two ago."

How did he--? *he's used to death--he lived through the earliest days of the AIDS epidemic; he knows what it's like to stand by a corpse--but violent death is new to him, and he lights a cigarette to cover his discomfort*

"His neck," she says, indicating with her head. Cimorene, on the other hand, is a little more used to violent death. Just not of anyone she actually cares about.

*waspish* I can see that he's broken his neck. What broke it?

"Well, it'd be a bit idiotic of me to stand here staring at him if I'd done it," she half-snaps back.

I didn't accuse you of murdering him, and if you have no better information, then I'll call a coroner. This place has such a lot of phones, phonebooks, and coroners.

Call Spade. XD She doesn't know what a coroner or a phone is, but gathers she's being dismissed. Her shoulders tense, but she hesitates, remembering Beatrice is still there.

T" Running off. I'll be back later tonight at some point.
