more fire fighting. it's great, but i should do some other stuff too.

there were two accidents two nights in a row on one of the roads here, within a quarter mile of each other. both at night. the roads get pretty slick when it rains i guess. there's an embankment on one side of the road that both cars slid down, so they were both like 10 feet below the level of the road on a steep slope in grass and bushes. but the tow truck operator hauled them out. i didn't know how hard-core tow trucks could be.

i got dressed up in my turnouts but couldn't do much except traffic control. there wasn't really that much to do in general, except get the cars out. so i lit flares and on the second one when we went back in the morning to get the car out i got to use my radio finally to coordinate with the guy at the other end of the scene for letting cars go through one direction at a time. pretty much the most dramatic thing that happened though, aside from getting to use the radios i guess, was somehow managing to whack myself in the nose with the metal traffic paddle (you know, the 'stop' and 'slow' ones) and ripping my nose stud halfway out. ouch. but it's okay now.

i have so much studying to do for the state fire fighting test later this month. so much. but i know how to start the giant fan, the circular saw, the chainsaw, and the generator now. that'll help if it comes up on the practical.
