Ziva let the box tumble back and forth between her hands a few times before she sat it down hard on the table in front of her.  Glaring at the box, she picked up her glass of tequila and drank deeply.  She grabbed the box and opened it, she dug the nail of her pinky finger between the velvety fold that was made to display a ring - definitely empty.  She snorted and tossed the still open box onto the table while filling her glass with another shot of tequila.

She had been drinking and staring at the box for the better part of two hours and still it offered no solution to the riddle of her emotional state - she was relieved that the box was empty - she was disappointed that the box was empty - she wanted Ray out of her life, while at the same time imagining what it would be like to be married to him.  She laughed mirthlessly while she drank, she was seriously messed up.

Maybe Oprah was right - maybe all little girls were looking to marry their fathers.  It would certainly explain her penchant for picking and falling for the wrong man.  She had spent most of her life running towards Eli David - that monster whom she once called Abba.  The beautiful dragon who taught her to kill, maim and destroy at his command, who taught her the art of deception and while she was good at it, the dragon was better - and he had turned against her - burned her with the flames of his corruption and desire for power.  Legend tells that dragons are cannibals and eat their young; Ziva knew it to be true.

And yet she recognized the shadow of the dragon within herself - that specter that sought out those of kindred spirit - the Michaels and the Rays - she unwittingly called them to herself - and that was the crux of her problem - she called to dragons and yet she yearned for the knight, even while knowing there were no true knights left in the world.

Ziva looked at the empty glass and snorted - oh yeah, she was three pages to the wind - no wait, sheets - she was three sheets to the wind - she  was thinking in fairytale clichés - time to put this princess to bed.

She got up and left the empty box and the near empty bottle on the table and stumbled into bed , she felt tears on her face as her final thought before falling asleep was that she didn’t need a knight in shining armor- no - what she needed - was a dragon slayer.
