Movie Review - Wolverine
Let's start with the shorter version...
Pros
#1 - I liked this version of Sabertooth. The X-men films totally screwed up this significant character. Liev Schreiber gets major kudos for working in some of the subtleties that make Creed, Sabertooth.
#2 - Ryan Renolds as Deadpool = GOLD! (I really wish we had gotten the other alternate ending...FYI, multiple versions of the extra scene at the end of the credits)
Cons
#1 - How do you screw up the hard-set touchstones of Wolverine's origin story in his origin movie? He has fake memories...implants...but I guess since they decided not to go that way and make it amnesia due to a freaking BULLET to the brain...oh wait, 2!
#2 - Super hearing? Really? You sent the Hudson's in like Ma and Pa Kent to a man with super hearing? Did you EVER hear Logan say "I can hear someone comin?" NO! He SMELLS them LONG before he could ever hear them. HOW COULD HE NOT SMELL THAT SHE WASN'T DEAD??? Which brings me to #3 - playing dead...really? She played dead?
#4 - Adamantium bullets. Really? You do know that Wolverine has crossed paths with Captain America, right? You do know what the Capt's shield is made of right? The ONLY thing that can penetrate adamantium - vibranium!
#5 - It's Emma Frost...not Emma Silverfox. Way to split her abilities and bastardize them.
#6 - Logan is way too nice. It really says something when the Saturday morning cartoon version of the character was more angry, vicious, and blood-thirsty than a PG-13 movie. To summarize - it should have been R.
#7 - Gambit and Logan needed more interaction for me to really buy this version of Remy. And what's with the jeweled staff? It should be just a wooden bow.
#8 - Way to totally ignore the Blob's origin story. Though I thought it was a more interesting take. I never was attached to the character, so I can accept this edit.
#9 - Why oh why did they make Jason 143 an Asian kid? He's obviously NOT of Asian descent in X2 (the guy in the wheelchair with the different colored eyes).
#10 - HOW DO YOU FUCK UP DEADPOOL????* This comment does come with an asterisk due to one of the various endings at the end of the credits. The ending we saw has Weapon XI regaining his head and saying "shhhhh". Ok cool. Go Deadpool! HOWEVER, an alternate we found out about is MUCH better - Weapon XI reaches from the rubble for his head, but his head is picked up by a cloaked figure asking "Who the hell are you supposed to be?" - says Wade Wilson to his clone. Yeah! We want the REAL Deadpool! Not this Sylar wannabe! The 2 roles I've always wanted to see Ryan Reynolds in since he started talking about roles he'd be interested in - Flash (DC) and Deadpool (Marvel).
Summary
Didn't make me feel as dirty as X3. Wolverine is the good evil step child whereas X3 is its evil twin...which isn't saying much. Can we give movies negative stars?
Looking Forward
Deadpool spin off has been given a green light!!!! YES! That should be hysterical.
Wolverine Origins 2 has been given a green light...and we're picking up in his samurai days...and I guarantee they won't have him run into Omega Red...shame.
