I'm not superstitious, but today was not the best of days. Between the time I fed Zelda out in her paddock and when I brought her in she had somehow managed to bash her knee wide open. Thankfully it was on the meaty part a little above the knee and not directly on the knee, but still we had to call the vet.
I took pictures with my phone, so the quality is pretty poor, but it's something.
The white stuff under the cut is soap suds. The vet had already started cleaning it up.
The white bits you see at the top and bottom are a little rubber tubie the vet sewed in for drainage. Hopefully as this heals and she continues to grow the scars will fade to nothing. Conformationally, she's the best horse in the barn, and if she ends up with scarring we won't be able to showcase her like we had planned!
Now if we can keep her from ripping the bandages off we'll have a good chance of it healing properly. The light blue bandage high on her leg is covering the wound, but to keep the bandage from slipping down we had to wrap up her lower leg as well. She may have a hard time lying down to sleep, but hopefully she'll be able to figure something out.
Considering the fact that she's only a year old, she was so well behaved about the whole thing.
