Two main things to talk about: my cousin's wedding and work. My cousin's wedding has pictures so I'll write about that first.
Overall it turned out really well. There was only one problem (the wedding cake wasn't ready when we went to pick it up) but it ended up fixing itself before April (the bride) could really freak out too much. Most everyone was happy, and if not pretended to be. I drank champagne and sweat to death in the reception hall (no AC...beautiful weather though). To please April I danced like a fool to hits such as: The Electric Slide, YMCA, the Macarena (gggggggh) and some congo line song. I also danced with Adam. That was nice too. Things got cleaned up pretty quickly and then Adam and finished the night with two scoops of overpriced ice cream.
Me with buckteeth and my boyfriend the pro frisbee player at the church before the wedding guests have arrived.
Adam, Janna, and Francis
The bride and groom. (Mr. and Mrs. Norkool....tee hee)
My cousin Carlo and Jon's sister. Small world.
My cousin Jasmine and Samantha my other dancing partner. Her cheeks are astounding.
And now to talk about work.
Work has been a new bit of stress everyday. It feels like when I finally get the hang of one thing I can't do another. A nurse today laughed at me and told me to stop caring about that because things will never stop changing. I knew that but I'm glad that someone "in the real world" reminded me. School doesn't teach you even half of what you need to know.
Another list
*Hispanic families are among the closest knit I have come into contact with. Their babies are the happiest and most cared for. Their moms are the sweetest and most appreciative (did I already write this? Still.....it's frigging amazing how great they are)
*Apparently in Mexico giving someone a cold tortilla is likened to a form of punishment. I was told this by a laughing mom after I gave a two year old a tortilla that he'd asked for and he whacked it against his crib railings. I brought back a warm one and he hugged me. Go figure. So much for those diversity classes Spring Quarter.
*Some of my sweetest most intelligent patients have been anorexic...I'm not sure why I'm surprised by that. Now I know.
*I had a patient who was unable to process protein because he had some rare recessive genetic flaw. Hrm if it's so rare then how did he get it? Probably because his parents are first cousins. Ew.
*The other day someone tried to strangle herself in her room with a video game controller. Geez.
*So far I have kept myself from falling into a deep fit of depression by holding babies in my spare moments (rather than sit around looking like a lazy bum).
*The act of eating is seriously a very complex skill that babies can't just figure out/stay awake long enough for. It'll take me an hour just to feed a baby half a bottle sometimes with all the burping, swaddling, unbundling, and diaper changing (this wakes them up no matter how tired they are) that I have to do.
*It is not necessarily a good thing if a baby takes all of his or her bottled down quickly/"well." 7 out of 10 times that baby will vomit.
*Baby vomit doesn't smell like vomit at all.
*I think it's fun to burp babies. They make funny squeeky noises and like to lean their fuzzy little heads against me. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh how cute.
*Newborn babies are fuzzy everywhere (hands and foreheads included)
*The distance between the female urethra and bladder is eensy.
There's more to write about but my eyes feel like they're burning because this weather hates me.
Time to finish reading Love Monkey.
