State of the Zipteye
- I'm spending almost no time on LJ anymore. Sometimes I skim, and even less often I post a brief comment. Everything changes. No, Facebook hasn't won me over; it's more Twitter and life.
- A month ago, I got poked in the eye with an earring. It left a deep, 6mm long scratch on my cornea. There was an occasionally recurring excruciating level of pain, like having something stuck in your eye but it won't come out. Your instinct is to blink, but that just scrapes off the cells that are trying to heal and makes it worse. More than once I spent time holding my eye open, swearing, and trying to dial my phone to cancel plans or call the eye doc.
I went to the doc 3 days in a row, was given two viscosities of moisturizing drops, antibiotics, steroids, and a temporary contact lens, all in the first 3 days. After that it recovered fairly quickly. Currently I'm taking extra fish oil, and lubing my eyeball/eyelid every night with a tiny, 3.5gram tube of optical-grade vaseline, that is about 400x more expensive per gram than standard vaseline. Only need to do that until July; should be totally healed by then.
- I just got a job. Full time, not a contract. I Interviewed 2 weeks ago, went through 10 days of background check, drug test, and a brief (extremely successful) salary negotiation. The whole shebang was finalized Friday afternoon. Start date is May 4th, offices downtown.
It's a good job with a good team in a good company. Real career growth, doing things that I'm good at. Great money, great benefits. I still can't quite believe it. And I'm very, very happy about it. Actual job details are in a f/o post; let me know if you can't see it.
