Toothless update

It's going well. I've had very little pain and very little swelling. I'm trying to be careful about what I eat, but am getting sick of soup, yogurt, pudding, juice, and canned fruit. Soft foods seem to be OK. I carefully nibbled down a quesadilla tonight ( Read more... )

days 3 & 4 were the worst for me, healingwise. i'm hoping your recovery is easier than mine was, though mine wasn't that difficult. ♥

Thanks sweety.

It's pretty Ok. I'm working from home today, which is nice. Not much discomfort, but I'm still not 100% and still a bit swollen on one side.

yeah, i hear that. one of the glands in my mouth on the right side stayed swollen & sore for a month & a half. it was brutal. but once that finally tapered off & i felt totally normal again, it was all good.

haha, i went to a psychobilly rock concert two days after my oral surgery. i think i gave myself dry socket that night, too, but i was SO HIGH on T3 that i didn't even feel it.

I was eating cooked pasta and chewing it with the front teeth before the actual pain kicked in. I think I got a cucumber seed or a grain of rice stuck in one of the gaping holes at some point during the early healing process. That didn't fall out for weeks.

Yikes. I'm trying to avoid anything that graunlates easily. Of course what I'm craving most are potato chips, rice, granola, etc.

You had productivity expectations for the weekend after oral surgery?

Glad to hear you are on the mend with little pain & swelling.
The food part is the worst. I can relate - probably a little too much!
Smooch.

Had a tasty pesto & iberico omelet the other day. Not sure what I'll eat today.

800 mg Ibuprofen every Four Hours rorybowman January 15 2007, 18:51:14 UTC
I recenty had some jaw surgery and found that the best thing for me was 800mg of ibuprofen every four hours, which the doctor assured me was safe. I actually found that this was more useful than vicoden (sp?) so FYI and YMMV.

I've been taking the 600mg ibuprofins a couple of times per day. My nurse friend said it's the best thing for the swelling. Seems to be plenty for comfort/pain as well.

Bone Graft rorybowman January 16 2007, 01:58:50 UTC
I have a birth defect called ameleogensis imperfecta which is such that my teeth don't have enamel. I had very ugly and malformed teeth my entire childhood and when my permanent teeth came in they were all splinted together under crowns.

For better or worse, though, I have also practiced martial arts off and on since I was fifteen (mostly without a mouthguard) and over the years have pretty much had the entire upper right left side of my teeth knocked out on the installment plan. Without teeth in place the jaw tends to recede and get weaker, and as I reached 40 it was obviously a problem so I had a bone graft from the upper portion of the jaw down to where the receding bone was, in the hopes that I can somehow have implants placed and keep the jaw from completely dissolving and collapsing into my sinus.

While they were in rearranging my jaw I also had my wisdom teeth out and I really hope the graft takes. I promised myself at fifteen that I would kill myself rather than be that ashamed of my body ever again.

Is that your panograph?
