Short version: bikes, chocolate, geeking, music, books, chocolate, dog
Flew from Boston to LaGuardia to Denver. The flight was incredibly cramped, and I was tired and hungry when I landed.
manintheboat picked me up at the airport wearing a cute hat with ears, took me home, and made me a tortilla with four kinds of cheese, and four kinds of meat. Awesome. Started talking geek stuff with
randomdreams and didn't stop until I left.
manintheboat very sweetly put up with the geek-bonding.
Saturday they took me to
Veloswap (resisted the carbon fiber bike and mostly bought socks and luggage and cool brake levers), then pumpkin carving with
randomdreams's family, then to the
Placebo show. I felt old and square (and straight), but the music was good.
Sunday was Used Book Day: the library sale and a used book store. I spent a few bucks. They spent... more. We also did the (partial) grand tour of Denver. Really beautiful city, with mountains all around. I can see the appeal to bicyclists. It's also oddly brown, not in that California way, but in a quarry sort way. Like it's been built on a big pile of dirt. Strange. And it was 70° during the day, melting off the snow from the night before. Welcome to the mountains.
I wanted to get some kind of Denver-rific food, chose buffalo burgers, and googled for it. Found
a comment on a page that led us to a diner kind of place that indeed had great buffalo burgers. Super tasty. And large.
Zipped home, repacked everything in the new duffle, and they took me to the airport to finally fly home.
I really enjoyed spending time with
manintheboat and
randomdreams. I like them better and better the more I get to know them. And their goofy dog too. It's a fun family. And they may even move to Seattle.
Hey
sanguinity and
grrlpup, you should visit them the next time you head to Denver-ish, perhaps when you need a break from the parents. The house is full of mad scientist gear, books, chocolate, bikes, jam, a Reedie, and a very sweet dog. You'll fit right in.
