Too Long

Greg loved how the ear buds made his ears hurt. He always wondered if one day his ears really would bleed. He wrote a paper once durring his freshman year of college about how Ipods and other electronic devices were contributing the the deterioration of interpersonal communication and ultimately the human condition; he almost felt guilty, but not guilty eough to actually push the pause button and try to talk to the girl next to him. He looked at her, she was cute; bright blonde hair, short skirt with nice legs, definately worth talking to, but then was he really worth talking to? She smiled at him and he smiled back and turned away. Rotating his finger along the click wheel of his ipod he turned up the volume to "Down With the Sickness" just a little bit more. It always amused him when he listened to hard rock music like this; people always said you should be able to tell what somone is like by the music they listen to. Greg didn't think so, Greg listened to all kinds of music, he didn't dress all in black, or grow his hair long, or do drugs, or do anything that could possibly stick him in a steryodype involving music. Greg didn't really fit into any particular steryotypes at all really. He was smart, but not enoguh to be considered abnomrally intelligent and certainly too lazy to be a nerd. He liked video games but wasn't an all out gamer. He liked drinking and was in a fraternity, but his morals kept him from being a complete party head. He was religious and for a whle in highschool he was into church and his youthgroup, unofrtunately that identity faded when he got to college and took a new testiment class that his faith was not prepared to handle. He was athletic, but didn't play any varsity sports and was by no means a Jock. He was aquainted with a lot of people at school, but his true friends were few and far between. Greg was indeed like every other male college student out there, not special, not unique, not powerful just there, on a bus on the way to one of his few identities in his hostile college world.
His fraternity sometimes made him feel like a part of something. He was president for the good part of a semester, but do to overcomitment to half a dozen different activities he was involved in the other brothers in the fraternity felt he needed to step down. He did so graciously. He stopped going aroudnd the house as much for a while after it happened and everyone resented him for it, or at least that's what he felt.

More to come......
