ANZAC Day - April 25th 2006

Apr 25, 2006 18:29

This morning I woke at 3:15am to go to the Shrine in Melbourne City.
It was cold. And damp. I had my travelling mug of coffee. I was kept warm by a large coat and a wooly scarf.
Its amazing to think that the soldiers who fought for our freedom, those many many years ago, were not so fortunate. And although I do not agree with the concept of war - I was moved by the Dawn Service. As I am moved by hearing the Last Post every year. Its the Aussie Spirit.
So, what did everyone do on this day in History? I would love to visit ANZAC Cove sometime in the near future. To be there would be incredibly eerie and sentimental.
Just a thought. Makes you place things in perspective.
