Patient for Puppies

Kate and I are very patient about it and we want to make sure we can handle it first, but we've always eventually wanted a dog. I haven't liked most of the small breeds that I've seen, so I always assumed that we'd end up getting a larger dog like a Lab or a Malamute once we had enough backyard to let it run around. After meeting a couple of smaller dogs, though, I wasn't quite as strict about it - if we could find the right breed.

Then, talking to my friend Luke today, I found out about Alaskan Klee Kais - miniature husky/malamute-looking dogs that run up to 17" tall. They're the cutest damn things I've ever seen. Well, once they get old enough...the puppies are seriously ugly. They've got the intelligence of the larger breeds and a lot of the same temperament, but they're smaller and don't require quite as much space.

I think this is the kind of dog that I want to have eventually. The closest registered breeder is in Illinois, though, so it'll require a trip. Anyway, here's some information on them in case anyone's interested. I need to get to bed.
