Paid my summer tuition fees for 3 units of class. I had been considering taking 4 units (which is one regular class and a 1-unit surfing class I was interested in), but since that was notably more expensive, and it's my mom's money, she said that if I wanted the surfing class I'd have to make up the difference myself. And seeing as how I don't really want to do that, I shall not be taking a surfing class. But, since semester tuition is a flat rate for 6 or more units (as opposed to summer, where more units means more money) I can always take the class then. Although the thought of surfing in December is kinda terrifyinig. But who knows. Anywho, the writing class is just called "Writing in Various Settings," and will be Monday through Thursday from 5:00-6:40 at night. Not bad. That means I will likely be working from 9 or 10 in the morning to 2 or 3 in the afternoon (not sure what time the market closes over the summer), I'll get a few hours of free time in the library or to go eat, and then class. I had hoped for the one that's only three days a week from 5:00-7:10, so that I could go home early on Thursdays, but it's full. I'll keep my eye out for an opening, though.
Anywho, sinice I got an 8 on my WPA test (yay!), I don't have to take the icky writing class over the summer, so I'm taking a class that fulfills both the 1-course requirement that comes with my score, and is good for the writing minor that I want.
Speaking of
that writing minor, and the
minor I need for being a Women's Studies major, I've been thinking. I still haven't talked to anybody in the Women's Studies department about whether my writing minor will count with Women's Studies (though I think there's a good chance I could talk them into it). But while I was looking at other options, just in case, I discovered that a sociology minor would work nicely (because I can't imagine a universe where sociology wouldn't be accepted to go with women's studies) - I've taken two classes already, an enjoyed them both, and I would only need an additional four classes for a minor (as opposed to at least five or six for any other minor). And then I was thinking... maybe I should just take both, even if the writing minor would work. I made my little schedule, and I could actually do my major, both minors, fulfill my other requirements, and still have some spaces left for three or four creative writing classes, all with four classes (12 units) a semester for another three years. And seeing as how my mom has said she's willing to pay for five years of college instead of four, I figure, why not give myself a wider base of knowledge and skill (always good for getting a job) and a little extra time for the economy to pretty up before I jump in with the masses of Yuppies?
Still debating my options, but something for me to think about.
How do I manage to make such simple posts so long?
