Baby steps...

Today was a rather different day for Cielo. He'd strayed outside of the apartment he shared with his fellow Embryon and made his way down the six flights of stairs, cat and tribbles in tow. He also decided to try on the clothes that Gale and Custo bought for him; pants, a gray sweater with an orange stripe and a large puffy coat of the same color ( Read more... )

Cielo's mouth hung open at Heat's arrival.

"H-Heat! What're you doing 'ere? How'd you get 'ere, bro?" He asked, shivering.

"...Daah! Make a fire for us, bro, I'm freezin'!!" And he gave Heat a rather convincing puppy-dog look.

*Gale gestures with a hand laden with grocery bags.* Let us go inside, Heat. You are not dressed for this weather.

*Gale walks up the steps and pushes the door to the lobby open. He looks back at Heat expectantly.*

This would be our new base, or rather, part of it is. We rent an apartment in this complex. You have already met our landlord, Claire Redfield.

*He leads the way up a few flights of stairs, to the sixth floor, and opens the door to number 601.*

As to your clothing -- you will need some warmer garments if you wish to spend any length of time outside. You cannot deny that it is uncomfortably cold.

*He gestures for Heat to enter, and steps into the apartment himself, setting down his bags. The apartment is still sparsely furnished, and the prominent (and only) seating in the living room is a well-loved leather couch.*

*Gale begins emptying the bags, and finds he has more vegetables than can fit inside the crisper drawer. Hm.* These are vegetables -- plants. They are a different kind of organism, grown and harvested for sustenance. I find them to be vastly more appetizing than the Junkyard rations. *He breaks off and tosses Heat a stalk of fresh celery.* I have only purchased such a large quantity to satisfy a certain house guest ( ... )

*Gale is mildly entertained at Heat's puzzled reaction to the vegetables, though naturally, his face doesn't reveal it.* Help yourself to anything that looks...or perhaps smells appealing.

*He produces a couple of mismatched mugs and tea bags -- green tea by the looks of it.* I only compare this place to Nirvana in a sense that it is ruled by a relative state of peace. Relative to the Junkyard, I should say. And I confess, my assessment is highly subjective; I have enjoyed my time here. I trust you will, too ( ... )

*Gale raises his eyebrows as he watches Heat wolf down the leftover chicken.* I see you still have a taste for meat. I find I have very little appetite for it.

*He puts his hands around his own mug of tea to warm his palms. He knows Serph and Heat have always had an odd rivalry. He always assumed it was Heat's rebellious nature and merely kept silent vigilance, ready to intervene if this were ever to upset the smooth functioning of the tribe. He gives Heat a sideways look and merely nods his head.*

I expect you will come to find many familiar things in this world. *He takes a cautious sip of his steaming tea.*

*Gale's face looks a little more grave than usual, and is glad when Heat drops the subject of his own accord. His voice is hushed, but not without a hint of harshness.* You need not remind me. *He trains his eyes on his tea and seizes it as a more comfortable topic.*

This is green tea. It has countless health benefits, both proven and theorized. I am pleased that you enjoy it.

*Gale paces up to a window and peers out at the skyline.* I highly suggest taking a walk along some of the local avenues, but have someone who knows the area accompany you; it is easy to lose your way.

But perhaps you should rest first, and organize your thoughts. You have experienced much in a very short span of time.

*Gale finishes his tea in silence, then sweeps in to collect Heat's discarded plate and cup. He glances down at his comrade, a little surprised to observe just how tired the red-head really is. He's usually brimming with...well, firey energy.*
