Just to say, I am such a freaking good housekeeper. Okay, maybe I'm not yet up to the level of flavorgirl or gfrancie, but not bad for working full time and being such a young'un and all.

B and I haven't gone grocery shopping for a couple of weeks. We usually go together to lighten the load, since we walk or bike to the store, and I worked last weekend and we spent this weekend in Corvallis, so aside from a few quick trips to the co-op/farmer's market we haven't really had time. Anyway, I was wondering what on earth I'm going to eat this week.

Then I realized we had a rather neglected 10-pound bag of potatoes. I cut off the sprouty parts and the green parts and cut some of them up into wedges for oven fries. These are not to eat immediately, but to freeze, like the frozen fries they sell at the store. Most of the rest of the bag became baked potatoes, which are a) versatile, b) fast and easy to prepare, and c) liked by Buzzy. They'll last us a good bit as a staple.

And then there was some fruit that had seen better days but was still edible, and I made it into fruit salad with yogurt sauce. Perhaps another night this week I'll make some beanburgers to freeze and go with the fries. And then I'll make us some whole wheat sandwich buns (I no longer need a recipe for bread, or for my kickass Thai-style peanut sauce, for that matter) and then we'll be set for the next emergency day.

I love having food in the house that is ready to eat with minimal preparation, yet is made from whole ingredients. My coworkers eat so much processed crap, and you know it's probably expensive, too. Cooking makes me feel resourceful and clever. I get it from my dad.
