Long time no post! I haven't really been keeping up with LJ at all lately because I lack a computer at the moment. So now you will finally get to hear the exciting conclusion of my Spring Break.
Monday: After another blissfully late start, Saira and I go thrift shopping and I buy a lovely sundress (what wishful thinking). Then we go home and help her mom make carrot halvah, which tastes like ice cream. Over the course of the afternoon, Saira's mom makes various other wonderful-smelling things, and Saira and I have some nice chill time. After dinner, we meet up with Cara at a coffeeshop. Which means that while in DC I saw every single Carleton person I personally know who was there at the time! Awesome!
Tuesday: Saira has to go back to work, but she wakes me up briefly to say goodbye. Saira's mom hugs me goodbye and makes me take food for the plane. I find my way to the airport all by myself on public transportation! Lucy and Debbie sweetly meet me at the Madison airport, and after we go grocery shopping together, they take me out to dinner. At The Great Dane, apparently one of Madison's more famous restaurants, I have the Wisconsin Mac n' Cheese, combining sharp cheddar and local beer in its tasty fondue-like sauce. I get to play with Lucy's adorable kitty, Callie, before bed. She always wants to play and makes funny noises.
Wednesday: Lucy and Debbie drop me off downtown on their way to work. I wander around Madison for the day, stopping at the feminist bookstore
A Room of One's Own and exploring the hippie district, including the famed Willie St. Co-op. After Lucy gets off work, she and I go to pick up Rob at the airport. We make homemade veggie burgers for dinner (my recipe) and play Apples to Apples and watch some Torchwood as well... Possibly I'm smushing several nights together here.
Thursday: It precipitates lightly and is rather yucky, so Rob and I spend the morning in the feminist bookstore and the Contemporary Art Museum. Modern Art = aart arrt artt. We lounge and read in the cozy apartment during the cold afternoon, except when we go on an unsuccessful quest for groceries which nonetheless gives us a nice walk and tour of the University. For dinner, I make soup and Debbie makes cheese biscuits, and then we walk to campus again to have some student-made ice cream. Yum!
Friday: Rob and I visit a yarn shop in the morning, where I buy way too much sock yarn and he enjoys a nice pot of tea. We have lunch with Lucy at her workplace... It was SO NICE and fairly cheap too. I am jealous. Rob and I catch the bus back downtown, and he explores the hippie district this time, while I sit in the park and talk to Buzzy. We all go out to dinner at
Ella's Deli, which has a crazy amount of colorful robots... really, it's beyond words. Later, we go to a FREE FREEZEPOP CONCERT that Lucy just happened to find out about. The concert is loud and people start doing dumb stuff like moshing (which Freezepop nicely discourages... "How about you just bounce up and down?"), but Freezepop is the most awesome ever. They play a good mix of songs Rob and I know and songs we hear for the first time and immediately love, and also a cover of The Final Countdown. Liz Enthusiasm is even hotter in person and signs a CD for Steph, who we know will die of jealousy.
Saturday: We all go to the Madison Farmer's Market, where we have a nice breakfast and Rob and I buy some more Wisconsin cheddar for the road. Lucy and Debbie help us narrowly avoid missing the bus. Julia picks us up in Rochester and kindly takes us home, where I reunite with Steph and the kitty. Shortly thereafter it's time for bed, to make brunch the next morning!
Update about my classes and other things that are distracting me from posting... sometime.
