Today was the grand re-opening of Sweet Lou's Waffle Bar, and Steph and I decided to have ourselves a waffle dinner (along with, like, half of Northfield). I was skeptical, but savory waffles are actually good! I had the Minnesito Burrito, with salsa, cheese, and sour cream, and a strawberry banana one for dessert. I forgot my camera, so pictures will have to wait until next time we go. But it is a very cute place. I only wish it hadn't been closed for repairs when Buzzy was here. They even serve waffles with Bacos, her favorite topping ever!

I had to write in heroic couplets for tomorrow, and I think it's a rather silly form, so eventually I decided to just go with the silly. I present to you...

Domestic Couplets

Lo, dinnertime approaches. Yet again
I'm forced to put away my poet's pen
(or rather, laptop) and my many books
and hasten to the kitchen and, yes, cook!
Don't scoff - you don't appreciate the feat
it is to make delicious things to eat.
First, I take up arms, my trusty knives,
which make poor veggies tremble for their lives,
and slay the onion. Though it makes me cry,
it will regret its insolence and fry!
Next comes careful selection of the spices,
to some, dark and mysterious as vices,
yet I know each one like a longtime friend
and harmonize them in a subtle blend.
As for the next step in my secret craft,
if you think I'll divulge it, you are daft.
Soon I serve my friends a meal of dreams,
arriving fragrant, in a cloud of steam.
Yes, once again I've realized my quest.
I've laid that beast of dinnertime to rest
and, on top of that, I've found the time
to immortalize my noble acts in rhyme.
