Today two international students gave me life advice. One said I was wrong to think of teaching as an irrelevant profession, that it can make a big difference in the way people think. So many people have told me they think I'd be a good teacher, and I do love helping people understand things and showing them new perspectives. Maybe God is trying to tell me something... I should probably try to get over the notion that teaching is for people who can't make it at anything else and at least consider it as a serious option.

The other, who was Native American, told me two Apache sayings she grew up with: "Thinking creates change" and "We are all related." (It was eerily like my stepmom was talking to me.) She says it's good that I want to make a change in the world, but I shouldn't think that I will be able to see the changes that I make. "That's really arrogant," she said. "You don't know everything; you're not God. Just by existing, you change the world."
