The Voice has left town, for very good reasons (i.e., if he hadn't decided to go back, I'd have kicked his butt from here to there myself-that kind of good reason). He's headed back to Edmonton, where he'll land in about four hours. We mostly held it together during the early-morning goodbyes, but then my Minion was nice to me when I reached the office, so now I'm a bit of a mess.
S'okay. I learned early on to keep a box of tissue on my desk. Wish I had an office, though, with a door of my very own.
Doesn't help, of course, that he headed out at horrible o'clock this morning, so we set the alarm for sometime before that, and got to bed rather late. I had planned on about four and a half hours' sleep. I think I managed three, but I'm not sure: the fierce wind crashed things about, so I kept waking up to distant crashes, wondering what was going on, whether the downstairs neighbours were fighting again, or perhaps whether the Americans had gone mad and started bombing the CN Tower, then fading back into dreams in which I fretted about not being able to sleep while beset by noisy uninvited guests.
He'll be back, but not for a good long while, and, well, things'll be Different when he comes back. Not worse, but Different. And until then, I once again have multiple, long-distance relationships with wonderful guys, and will continue to rack up frequent flyer points (maybe enough will accrue that I'll be able to fly out of the province! Perhaps as far as Buffalo!).
Tomorrow I leave for Boston for a visit with the Gentleman (good timing!). We'll attend the Hartford Christmas Ball, and a couple of other dance things, and have a pleasant visit (yay Gentleman! yay dancing! yay not being at home!), during which I shall try to avoid becoming a complete stresschipmunk over the Impending Holiday Season, because the Gentleman does not deserve to have to deal with the Impending Holilday stresschipmunk version of me.
Monday, I shall fly home. Tuesday morning, I leave for St. John's, where we (PublisherDude, our Lead Author, and I) are meeting with some teachers about a textbook. Thursday evening I shall fly home to the cats, the roommate (who has promised not to commit damage to the apartment while I am away), and a Voiceless apartment. Also to overdue charges on the DVD I forgot to return last night. Oops.
Sometime in all this I shall apply for a passport so that I may continue to visit the Gentleman when the stupid new passport laws for travel across the border come into effect.
It's about time for a Grinchmas post, but my heart isn't even in that, at the moment. So I shall have coffee, and a cookie, and consider the Teacher's Guide.
Keep warm. Hug someone. If you find some extra sleep or time lying around, send it my way.
