Those of you who read
sabotabby's LJ may have noticed her request for technical assistance a few posts back. We still haven't figured this one out, so maybe one of my clever friends will know something her clever friends don't.
Her G5 uses Airport for its internets. I have a wireless router, broadcasting our network ("Grammarian"), on channel 11, from the kitchen (where the functional phone jack is).
My laptop's airport can pick up our network from anywhere I've taken it in the house, including Sabo's room. My iStumbler perceives many many networks from all around.
Her computer can see only my landlord's (or perhaps neighbour's) network, "Linksys." She installed iStumbler, and it sees only Linksys.
Grammarian is not secured, and we haven't changed any settings since the move. All the blinkenlights on the modem and router are blinken in their correct and usual colours.
We have tried:
• re-setting her Network Preferences
• re-setting the modem and router
• wiggling her antenna, and taking it off and putting it back on her computer
• turning her computer off and back on again (technical jeenyuses, that's us!)
• calling her computer names
Yes, we could run an ethernet cable from the kitchen along the dining room walls, around the corner, up the stairs, along the upstairs hallway, and into her room (and I think I might even have a cable that's long enough, but not enough of the thingies for sticking cables to the wall), but we'd prefer not to, because that'd be an ugly nuisance, and also I'd have to buy more cable stickums, and also it might prevent her closing her door. Also, it would be nice for the things that are supposed to work to actually work. There is no reason for this not to work. It worked at the Eyrie! She moved the antenna very carefully!
So, does anyone know how to diagnose and troubleshoot an anti-social Mac G-5?
