I think that all governments do things of which I personally will disapprove. I think that governments are only as good as the people making them up. This particular government is made up of people whose political careers represent a history of broken promises, self-serving ruthlessness, and dishonour: the new Conservative party was created from broken promises, from the most self-serving, ideological dregs of the Reform and old Progressive Conservative parties. Ideologically, they're Canada's most right-wing party, and they are way less responsive to public opinion or criticism than any government in recent history.

We did not see this kind of ideologically-based cutting of services under the Liberal government, for all they were self-serving and scandal-ridden. We didn't see the same kind of toadying up to the culture of fear. There were problems, yes, and cuts to programs I'd rather not have seen cut, and the Liberal record on treatment of First Nations peoples is pretty reprehensible, but I believe that they showed less fiscal mismanagement, less hubris, and less contempt for women, socio-economically challenged individuals, and Canadians in general that this government has shown.
