Grandmom update

Spoke with my grandmom today. Sometime in between my mom telling me her room number and the phone number for the hospital and my calling her, they moved her to the rehab ward. So the first time I phoned, I got someone else's grandmother, who had no idea who I or my grandmom might be. I was like "She's 93 and she can't move her right leg or arm. She really can't have gone far!"

Turned out she'd gone an entire floor, but not entirely under her own steam.

I'm glad. The first ward had many elderly people who were much more ill than my grandmom. The lady in the bed next to her died last night, and another of the ladies there is pretty out of it. That cannot have been an inspiring environment, no matter how many times my mom visits with Quincy the extremely cute, Shih-Tzu.

They're not sending her home for a bit, yet. It's taking her a while to heal, because she is old and fragile and her body is wearing out. She's doing much better, though-mom was entirely freaked out when she initially had a very bad reaction to her drugs and went quite out of her mind. The doctors found better drugs, and she's herself again, which is a relief for all of us (including her!).

So now there's rehab-physio and OT, and some time while she and the care team figure out what she can and can't do, and what she needs in order to live as independently as she wants, or, if not as independently as she wants, in a way that doesn't limit her more than her own age and its attendant medical issues limit her already.

And she'd like a proper, home-cooked meal, please.

I reckon I can do something about that.
