2 glasses bubbly, 2 glasses red, 2 glasses white

Whenever someone talks about the NEW WAVE they mean the 'new wave' of music and musicians that have emerged and influenced the scene in the last two years. The only new wave is in music. It has succeeded and failed. Succeeded with a reappraisal of the ideas, aims, and philosophies of a new set of musicians and of audiences. It failed by our lack to separate the wheat from the chaff and thinking that one battle wins the war.

The success is due to action -- the failure due to apathy.

One wave does not make much headway up the beach. If the tide is to turn then one wave must be followed by another and so on until the cliffs start to crumble. This is just the new wave of the turning tide. The next wave will start from where this one has finished. So don't slacken off now, but slip into a higher gear. There still is a lot more we can do.

The NEW WAVE is not just about music. It is a challenge to consider everything you do, think, and feel. For some it has meant a change in fashion and in life style. But most of the fashion has become cliched and most of the groups have even now become boring old farts future tax exiles and full of crap such as saying "I don't want to hear about politics, I just want to have a good time. It's only rock'n'roll." But it's not only rock and roll! If it was then what is all the fuss about it? Politics is people and people is YOU.

I'm not on about party politics not the NF or the Tories. I'm talking about PERSONAL politics. The way you react to the people around you. The ways that you love them, fuck them, hate them, slate them. Things like love, jealousy, hate, anger, sex ... How often do you do something to someone and not know why you did it?

The NEW WAVE is like a spring clean. You were prepared to throw out the rubbish in your wardrobe and your record collection so why not chuck out all the prides and prejudices cluttering up your personality????

Just think about how you react with other people.

Pete Shelley
