I need a picture and I'm not sure if it exists. The picture I need, is a picture of either John Sheppard or Joe Flanigan in civvies. It should be a picture that could be taken out of the Entangled Particles boys' photo album, maybe the one Rodney framed and put on his desk. The one Rodney stares longingly at when John is working late. Sometimes he even reaches out to caress picture!John's face, but he will never, ever admit this.
It's mostly because John doesn't like having his picture taken. It makes him feel uneasy. As soon as there's a camera in the room, he gets stiff and uncomfortable and his smile gets a little strained. Rodney is used to publicity shots so it doesn't bother him, but cameras are like kryptonite to John.
So there isn't a lot of good pictures of John. Laura has a few; she had a paparazzi period where she did her best to catch him off-guard and take a shot. Some of them are pretty funny, like the one she snapped early one morning when John came out of the bathroom with his t-shirt inside out, his toothbrush sticking out of his mouth, and a little trail of toothpaste drool running down his chin. John has yet to find where Laura keeps it and she uses it to blackmail him when there's something she wants.
There's another picture of John that Rodney treasures. It's the one Megan took the second time John and Rodney visited the Hawkins family in Fayetteville. Anna had just turned one and she adored John. In the picture, they're both asleep. John's is on his back on the couch with his head on the armrest and Anna is lying on his chest, her tiny fist gripping John's shirt. John is holding her, a protective hand against her back and he looks at peace.
When Rodney saw them, he felt strange ache in his chest and first he thought that he was having a heart attack and was just about to call 911 when Megan came up behind him with her camera and said: (quietly so she wouldn't wake John and Anna) "He would be such a wonderful father."
And Rodney realised what that warm, burning ache was.
He still gets it every time he looks at the picture and he tries to work up the courage to tell John about it, but it's hard. One day he will, when he's ready, and he hopes that John has an ache to match his.
What I meant to say is this: I'm definitely not encouraging you to post tons and tons of pictures of Joe. I will definitely not love you if you do this.
And now I'm off to the NaNo kick-off. Yay!
