There were so many bits here that made me laugh out loud in sheer glee:

"La, la, la," Rodney interrupts, slamming his hands over his ears. He won't deny that he had certain thoughts when he first got to know Teyla, at least until his rational mind whacked him over the head and told him 'way out of your league'. Anyway, Teyla is a mom now and she's married, and is the closest thing Rodney has to a sister in this galaxy, and he doesn't want to discuss her sex life any more than he wants to discuss Jeannie's.

and:

It takes several weeks before Rodney is up for sex at all and the irony is killing him. What's worse, he can't even complain to John because John would never let him hear the end of it. Rodney can just imagine the conversation. 'That's right dear, I put my back out in my attempts to become more attractive so you would want to have hot sweaty monkey sex with me again, and as a result, I am now at day seventeen and counting of highly involuntary celibacy.' Then, John would probably give himself a stroke from laughing and Rodney would have to spend the rest of his life changing adult diapers.

But the part where Rodney realizes that for John it's not about sex but about having the life? OMG. That was a brilliant moment and just what I needed to experience this morning (hotel full length mirrors are so cruel and why are there so many of them?)

You cannot know how much this story delights me. Thank you so very much!

Oh thank you! *hugs*

Let me tell you a secret about mirrors, my dear: they are evil and they lie. Smash them all!

Well, your story here helped put things in perspective. And soon I will be going back to my house where there *are* no mirrors and I can pretend I really look like Rene Russo. :-)

I keep mine with the reflecting side to the wall and only turn it around when I feel particularly pretty ;)

I was never much of a girly-girl but age is turning me into one in self-defense. I refer to at least one of the products as Olay of Delay. But the picture you paint here of R & J over time just makes me melt. *happy sigh*

I might have a little thing for them growing old and grey together...

It's a good thing, made more poignant by the thought that with their high-risk jobs, making it there means that they've survived a lot to reach that point. :-)
