Big post of PIMP - The Mentalist

Feb 25, 2009 17:56

I have fallen in love with two new series lately. One of them is The Mentalist - a police procedural about a former fake psychic who fights crime.

First of all, there is Patrick Jane (Simon Baker). He used to make lots of money pretending to read minds and communicate with the dead. Then the serial killer Red John slaughtered his family and now he is a consultant with the CBI (California Bureau of Investigation). So, Jane is essentially an emotionally damaged, tortured woobie with a tragic past. He isn't very good at following rules and when he finds Red John he's "gonna cut him open and watch him die slowly like he did with my wife and child". He can also be a bit of a bastard and gets punched in the face a lot.

Important things to know about Patrick Jane: Once you have seen him smile, you will spend the rest of your life trying to make him do it again and again. This is probably one of the reasons for why he is so good at manipulating people.

Just look at that smile!

Here, have another one.

Other things you should know about Patrick Jane: He likes to walk into other people's homes and eat their food. It's okay, he does it to fight crime!

He also very good at building sandcastles.

Oh, and he likes babies. Babies make him smile. That means we like babies too.

However, the show isn't just about Jane. (Even if I would gladly spend 40 minutes watching him smile...) There are some other people too.

This is agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney).

Lisbon is the agent in charge of the CBI team. She's the one who gets in trouble when Patrick does unconventional and sometimes unethical things. I don't have any special feelings for Lisbon, other than 'meh', but I'm sure she's a good person. Also, she has a very big forehead, but she can't help it so I won't hold it against her.

There is also agent Kimball Cho (Tim Kang).

I don't know Cho that well yet, but I have a feeling he spent most of his time in High School getting pushed into lockers, which places him in the 'people Zin approves of' category. He likes wearing ugly shirts and reading books at stakeouts, and also seems to be pretty good at interrogating people.

This big goofball here is agent Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman).

At first sight, he might look like has trouble tying his shoelaces in the morning, but he's actually quite heroic, running into burning buildings to save people's lives and stuff like that. He's also huge and has very nice shoulders. Rigsby likes eating ketchup from little plastic packages, 'that mango crap', and Van Pelt.

This is junior agent Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti).

There is one very important thing you need to know about Van Pelt: She's absolutely gorgeous.

(I was supposed to write something here, but I was too busy drooling.)

Other things you need to know about Van Pelt: She belives in psychics and life after death and stuff like that, and sometimes clashes with Jane over this. She the newest member of the team, and she really, really loves her job. She also looks extremely hot in kevlar. Van Pelt doesn't like cilantro, but she likes Rigsby.

One more thing you need to know about Rigsby and Van Pelt:

They are too cute for words and I want them to get married and have lots of red-haired, goofy little children. Unfortunately, in Van Pelt's words: "It's not that I don't like you, I do. It's just... we work together and there are rules. And if we were to... be together, one of us would have to leave the unit. And Junior Agents would be kicked out first and that's me. And this job is so important to me, I just..."

Then Rigsby started snoring and I didn't get to know what happened next, and I've only watched up until ep 1x09. But they are clearly meant to be.

Anyway, I'm very fond of this show, not to mention Jane's smiles, and if you haven't seen it yet, I can recommend it! *runs off to keep watching*

My other new shiny, The Donald Strachey Mysteries, I will tell you all about another day.

Caps from tvscreencaps.com, except for the one with the baby, which I capped myself.

yay!, assorted geekage, pimping, the mentalist
