My God, metas for shows with eight seasons are EXHAUSTING. I believe this is why I haven't gotten an SPN meta done since last fall. This was an extra hard one for me to write up, because it was based on an initial feeling, one that I was not expecting to get from the premiere. I definitely think the dog flashback, as mundane and foreign and...out of place (?) as it feels in this show, signals that they have some of that exploring in mind as the season continues. I'm definitely crossing my fingers!

As with anything, my philosophy always is, hope for the best, prepare for the worst. It serves me well watching SPN, haha. I really truly hope to see the show flesh this out, because I think they did give alot of very telling, very intentional bunch of hints in the first two episodes. (When I started this, my goal was to discuss both, but the premiere took up so much time, bringing the second ep into it too much wouldnt have made this more cumbersome than it is! But it still tracks with the premiere. And that makes me ridiculously happy!!) But I've also made my peace that if they don't adequately lay this out in flashbacks, it still at this point does make sense. I understand why fans have problems with it, technically the writers job is to sell their choices. But if they don't take that time, for fandom purposes, I know it's a big hurdle for some. So while it takes some leg work, I thought it was important to track why it does make sense. There's just alot to untangle. ;)
