Thanks! Glad you can enjoy it! I kinda love it for itself on its own, even if the season is sucking, it's become divorced from this playlist. All my headcanons from this season seem to live in these songs, kinda like I'd love to vid them, if I could give a crap about the show anymore. I can't afford the show that good grace, there's too much better stuff out there this year I'm dying to work with instead.
I wish I could throw in the towel on this thing, it's really just been PAINFUL lately. I still am stupidly attached to Sam and Dean, I just hate how apathetic the show has become about them. Fic is LEGIT the only thing that makes me not want to rip my hair out. Because writers have done some beautiful things with S7 canon, some of my favorite really, mostly thanks to 7.02. Too bad SPN writers suddenly don't give two craps. [So with you on 7.17, I stalled for months watching that one actually, cause I was afraid of what they'd do with it, distanced myself falling down the Hunger Games rabbit hole, and then came back to it so it didn't make me so livid. I was relatively complacent about it until the eps after showed by killing Sam's hell thing, the whole damn narrative stalled. Both Sam and Dean's character arcs for the year just disappeared in a ball of smoke and everything was suddenly hunky-dunky and IM SORRY WHAT IS THIS?? So yea, I don't blame you one bit for checking out there. Years from now I'm gonna look back at 7.1 and probably say, that, there, that's where they jumped the shark.]
I almost can't conceive that Gamble is leaving the show, and is being replaced with a guy who barely worked on three seasons of the show. I'm mostly watching the finale as a goodbye to her, because the writer's room is gonna feel that loss. It all makes me wonder what the hell went on that she would leave the show as anticlimatically as this after being Sam & Dean's number one fan for years. It all seems very bizarre to me, the show's never failed this spectacularly at delivering.
You've nosedived into Avengers eh? I feel so inadequate for that fandom, I'm so comic-resistant, I've just seen the other movies like, the last couple weeks, in prep to see the movie, which I still have to get on this weekend. But atm, it's more listed under the things I do for Joss Whedon. I've been catching up on Revenge this week though, which after a couple depressing weeks of stumbling seems to have recovered back to its OMGKEYSMASH status.
I will always be attached to Sam and Dean, but that's kind of the reason why I had to stop watching. This isn't Sam and Dean anymore, the show has completely forgotten everything that made them WHO THEY ARE and what made them interesting and wonderful and fucked up and glorious in the first place. I pretty much summed it all up in an impromptu meta/rant here, two months ago. That was before 7.17 aired, and you'll notice my tags... :|
The ONLY reason I stuck it out for as long as I did is because of the fic, but I can't even enjoy that at this point. There is literally no feasible way for me to fanwank the current canon in a way that makes sense to me, and I'm just not interested in trying anymore u_u
I heard about Gamble leaving! And Jeremy Carver (?) is taking over...? Ugh let's not get me started on how I feel about fandom's attitude toward Gamble. LET'S NOT.
I HAVE AND IT'S GLORIOUS AND YOU SHOULD TAKE THE LEAP 8D Honestly, I used to be REALLY comics-resistant as well, because there's SO MUCH canon and SO MANY universes/timelines/characters and depending on who's the writer/artist of a particular arc it might not feel the same and-- yeah. There's just way too many variables, for someone as OCD as I am. BUT!!!! The movies have made it so great for people who know nothing about comics canon to connect with the characters. It's a completely separate universe from the comics, so you don't have to know one to appreciate the other. That being said, I've found it really easy to pick up on comics canon, just sort of through osmosis? :o
There are a bunch of WONDERFUL primers/metas/info posts that give an in-depth overview of the different universes and the characters' histories, and once you read those you're pretty much all set to start diving into the fic :D The Steve/Tony ship manifesto is really what got me started on all this; there's also this great primer on all the Marvel universes, as well as a compilation of Steve/Tony slashy moments. ... I'll just leave those there. *cough*
Okay I'm gonna shut up about Avengers in a second, I swear, but let me just say? I have very conflicted feelings towards Joss Whedon. I love Firefly, but I definitely don't consider him the poster boy for feminism like he and the rest of the world seems to think he is. THAT BEING SAID, I walked out of the Avengers movie completely head-over-heels in love with Natasha/Black Widow and so fucking impressed with how she was written. Just. It's fucking awesome, okay. It's AWESOME. Ok I'm done now.
REVEEEEENNNNGE omg ♥ I stopped watching after the hiatus so I had 4 eps to catch up on, and I think having a bunch to get through all at once really helped. UGH THIS WEEK'S EPISODE THO!!!! Q_____Q I WAS BAWLING omg. And the ending...!!!!! ACTUALFAX CLAPPING HANDS OVER MOUTH AND GASPING
I am SOOOO sorry I was remiss at THANKING YOU FOR ALL THESE LINKS! I've been plugging away at thesis crap and trying to forget I still haven't seen this silly movie yet. SORRY JOSS. But that there you described is EXACTLY what I've found so daunting about it, all the different universes and authors and versions and stuff. So all the links are an amazing help. Especially in explaining Steve/Tony! I've seen it everywhere and I...guess I need to see the movie, huh? HA.
REVENGE. Oh god, the penultimate, I was BAWLINGGG. omg, and then THE FINALE?? Totally keysmash worthy. I was just DYING inside at how good it all ended up as a season. I had my doubts, YOU KNOW. But they pulled it together! They even gave Daniel stuff to do that actually made me glad they didn't kill him, so that was a feat! I'm a little on the eh side about the silly preggers part, but Emily's reaction scene was so amazingly soulcrushingly good, I think I've already forgiven it. DID YOU CATCH THE FLORENCE?? I squeed I admit. But Victoria?! How on earth are they gonna do that?! How is she not dead? I'm assuming Stowe's not leaving the show, right?
My only problem is there was so much fantasticly kickass badassness, I feel the extreme need to rip apart my vid and do it all over again. In fact I'm probably convinced. But more good source isn't really ever a bad thing ;)
