HAPPY SPN PREMIERE DAY!!! Yes, it's S7 and I'm excited for the premiere, moreso than I've been...in a long while. Which I know is dangerous as hell and stupid, especially seeing as how my 'everything else is cake' mentality worked last season. But I can't help it, the show has been throwing slivers of hope out into the crowd and I'm jumping up and ( Read more... )

Yeaaaaaaa...that was not an episode for a casual viewer. But at this point I agree, they've got their audience. It's mostly about them continuing the story in a capacity that's true to the characters to keep that audience around and its enough for Friday ratings.

I was reading this interview Mike Schur from Parks & Rec did HERE, and he had this fabulous quote that I think should be the golden rule for all showrunners:
You're never going to satisfy everybody all the time. The best chance you have to satisfy most of the people most of the time is to be true to the characters, make them consistent and then try to show people who were invested with something that you're messing with that you understand that they are invested in it, and you are too, and you have a plan, and if someday they stick with the show, they'll be happy. That's the idea.

I agree with the more solid footing in this season, but I do think it's more solid because they're building off of last season which was a risk to play, but now they can reap more of the benefits. It kinda reminds me of Buffy, how S6 was so shaky because they came back after thinking it was the end in S5 but by S7 it was strong for it...
