Soc: Information

I envision a system where every bit of information and communication comes in by a sort of feed. Twitter, facebook updates, LJ comments, e-mail, texts, IMs, phone messages, personalized news feeds, blog and comic updates, it all gets queued up to be perused at your convenience, all in one place. Everything is marked with a level of importance, and your time is as well. If something comes in that is more important than your time is marked then you are notified. Else, it falls into the queue. So if you're sitting down to check the internet, you can read your queue from the beginning or the end, one bit at a time (although context would be provided), and you would be notified about any incoming bits. If you were in an important meeting, only things marked "urgent" would notify you, and you could then quickly either take care of the issue or ignore it and go on with the meeting. You could mark an item to only show up at certain times, or when you are in certain locations, or to get ignored completely based on filters and rules. It could filter repeats and duplications, and streamline conversations from dozens of desperate texts, twitters, and comments. You could respond immediately in the correct medium, or redistribute, or file it away for future reference or later reading. It would be a combination of an RSS feed, away notifications on IM, and that little notification window that pops up when something new happens. It could connect to your calendar to automatically set your interruption status or to auto-respond to certain types of information. It would sync to a central server, so that you could mark something as "read" on your PDA and it would show up that way on your desktop, or your tablet, or on the native website. It would be one system to rule them all. It will make one hell of a project.
