A Dead Fish Tale (Tail?)

Dec 21, 2012 20:43

So there has been a goldfish just hanging out on the bottom of the toddler room fish tank for like a month. He seems fairly happy, eating and chilling out. I did try every form of medicine in the store to try and get him to swim around like the others but nothing, so I let him be. This Monday when I came in he was on his side all gaspy-like, and I figured I should put him out of his misery. I scooped him with the net and saw that his belly was all rotted (eaten? Ack!) away and couldn't just let him suffocate in the air, so I popped him in a plastic cup and put it in the freezer thinking this was more humane.

After 10 mins, I went to get him out. The cup fell and I was scooping a frozen fish up from the floor. I was a bit squicked and decided to just get rid of the body as fast as I could. Since it was early morning I didn't want to leave it in the garbage can all day, I went to the bathroom to flush the fish. As I was in a hurry, I went into the boys bathroom and into the first stall I saw. I was tipping the cup when I realized there was some leftover pee-pee from the day before in the toilet, but just kept going, because as I said, in a hurry.

And I dropped the cup. Because we usually use the girl's bathroom with the kids, that's where the gloves and supplies are. I could hear children arriving and knew I had to be back in ratio, so I went dipping into a pee and dead fish filled toilet to retrieve my disposable cup.

So gross. This (and other slightly less disgusting reasons, but really, only slightly less disgusting) is why my hands are always chapped and bleeding. At least my day could only go up from there...
