The day has come

my little boy is no longer in preschool. *sniff* He's all grown-like, except not.

And for the record, I still think it's a little ridiculous to hold a graduation ceremony for 4 year olds. Cap, gown, mortarboard, tassel, Pomp and Circumstance, calling out names, getting a rolled-up piece of paper... yeah. Those scrolls make great swords for impromptu sword fights, I learned. Also that my son is rather a clown- upon seeing Daddy there ready to take the obligatory picture of him With Scroll, he stuck out his tongue. Daddy didn't really see, but everyone else did. When we asked, he said he "thought it would be silly". Silly is the height of humor for his group. *groan* At least we aren't wondering where he gets it from. (Daddy is known for being rather silly, himself.) I am hoping my girls will have more decorum, since the girls in his class did. (No, he did not start the swordfight, I think, but there were multiple boys involved, and it was cute.)

As far as the ceremony goes, at least it was only part of the overall preschool program. Then everyone got to come out (one "grade" at a time) and sing their song. Then it was only the parents acting silly- doing things like instigating waves (we all knew who was there for the 2 year olds) and getting close enough to the stage that they upset their tots (1 year olds, this time- and they had meltdowns like dominoes, one triggering the rest). Oddly enough, Caedmon didn't sing on stage like he had at home but at home there is only me rather than a church sanctuary full of people. Celes was rather good, drinking some and playing some and clapping some and not deafening the audience with her particular brand of ear-piercing shriek. And then it was done. That was Tuesday.

Today is Thursday, the Last Day of School... at least for his preschool. It's also a big Party Day, and the recent graduates were not left out. After a day of fun activities yesterday, they... I don't know what they did before I got there, except they did sing Happy Birthday to Caedmon- who is having his birthday party this Saturday, and play on the playground. They came from the playground to the party, in the church pavilion outside. It's actually nice out- windy, but only about 70 degrees. We also teamed up with the other 4 year old class, which was also nice. Twice the fun and twice the help. So there was pizza and playing with bubbles, beach balls, hula hoops, and sidewalk chalk. Then ice cream, then we were called back inside where they played a bit more, took more pictures, and said goodbye. Teachers got hugs, boys got overwoundup, girls didn't want to leave, and in the end we wished each other a good summer on the way home. Afterward, I took my wound up son, let him pick dandelions by the car, and took him home. After a little outside play, he was much calmer and we've had a pretty good afternoon since. He's watching Toy Story right now, and Celes is waking from her nap. It's been relaxing, after all the activity this morning.

And most of what has gotten me through is the thought that I get to do it two more times.
