So, our 4th picnic was not well-attended*. The only people who showed up were Mike (Matt's former workmate), Mike's sister Helen (visiting from England), and Mike's sister's daughter Erin (maybe about 5 years old). Now, most of you reading this post know that I am basically a 5-8 year old trapped in this "adult" body so you might not find what I am about to say surprising. However, the following is a list of things that 5 year olds think are pretty awesome, but adults get confused as to why I (an "adult") own them:
* Several colouring books
* The 96 pack of Crayola crayons (the one with the sharpener built in)
* A menagerie of stuffed animals
* A box full of various funny hats**
* A battery-operated hula dancer who makes the worst possible noises (as in deafening)
* A stuffed Mr. Potato Head, who has Velcro detachable parts
It's funny, the only thing that stopped Erin from being very shy on the floor of our kitchen were the colouring books. After that, she was quite outgoing and gregarious. (Corinne claims Erin liked our live turtle best, but I think she preferred Mr. Potato Head.)
So, that was my 4th. How was yours?
[* - For the record, I know a lot of my second-year friends are stressed out about the upcoming exam, so I didn't expect them to show up, although I thought *some* of them would. I am also now convinced that *all* of the first-years totally suck.
** - Erin loved the cheesesteak hat the most. Thanks Pete! :^)]
