Obligations and Expectations

We have come to live in a rapidly changing world. Many of the things we were taught and the values we learned just don't seem to apply these days. I disagree with that for the most part because some of the most important lessons seem to have been forgotten.
I titled this post with two words that seem to have kind of fallen to the wayside. They work hand in hand so you can't have one without the other. There are times when you have obligations to others and in return they have expectations of you. When others are obligated to you, you then have an expectation in return. Give and take, Take and give.
I write this because it seems that those two words don't mean much anymore. Recently on two separate occasions recently I have had expectations of others and they failed to meet their obligation. I take my car to be repaired with the expectation that the job will be done correctly and they are obligated to fix it correctly. Did this happen...No. I have a standing appointment with a personal trainer. My expectation is that he will be there, his obligation is to show up or notify me in advance if he won't be there. Twice now this has happened so my expectations were not met and the obligations were not met. Sometimes I wonder if this really even matters to anyone.
