Okay, so I've been outspokenly anti-having-Olympics-in-my-city?
But I have never said that I'm not proud of my country, or our athletes. And right now I am so full of pride I could fucking burst.
The energy in Van right now is amazing. Horns are honking endlessly, people are screaming, and everyone is smiling and nodding at each other like long-lost friends. As much as I hate the giant waste of our money and resources, it's so cool to be a Vancouverite and a Canadian, today of all days.
I got off work early ihatemyjob and went to the pub with the hubby. I've never really seen anything like that in my 25 years. The bar was PACKED and everyone was proudly sporting their red and white. We screamed and cheered and chanted "Let's go Canada!" until that final goal, and then random strangers were hugging each other and screaming. It was kind of amazing. I don't even like hockey, but I LOVE my country. When we won, and the 200+ people in the bar burst into a round of our national anthem, I felt like crying.
I honestly don't give a shit about sports or hockey or any of this crap, but it's so gorgeous to see Canadians proud and united and happy, and I am so lucky to live here. SO. CONGRATUFUCKINGLATIONS to you amazing young men and women who have made us the country to win THE MOST FUCKING GOLD MEDALS IN THE MODERN HISTORY OF THE WINTER OLYMPICS. And..
GO CANADA GO!
