Well I didn't see what happened with Zoro ; I only got to see the altercation between Marco and Messina coach Giordano, and both were unbelievably childish and ridiculous and really fun to watch :D

But still, I'll side up with Materazzi on that one :P I still don't understand why the coach took the ball (and tried to run away from Marco with it ! That was one of the silliest scenes I've seen in football).

But I prefer to remember Marco's awesome goal :P It was a beautiful bicycle kick :

I have to say I admire your sanguine attitude regarding the whole Materazzi vs. Zidane episode and you must have a very big heart....however I can't share in your enthusiasm for Mr. Materazzi and his successes. To me he is still an ass without a conscience. Zizou looked amazing in the FIFA banquet pics but you could see the sadness in his eyes and when he said that he hoped he would be remembered for his contributions to the game, knowing full well the Materazzi thing was on everyone's minds, well that broke my heart all over again. He shouldn't have to be defending his career like that! The year is coming to a close and all the TV shows & print media here in the US are coming up with their recaps of 2006 and the Headbutt is all over the place again. When I think about how Zizou is perceived (a joke and a villain) here in the US and how no one has really defended him then my blood boils and i have to direct my anger towards the person who instigated this mess: Materazzi. I don't wish anything bad for him but I can't be happy for ( ... )

I assume you were in fact replying to me, not to ziggyeex's post ?

I began to write a reply, and meep ! It turned into a rant... I'm not sure it has its place here, so I took it to my own LJ :

Feel free to comment there (and disagree with me :D), I'm curious to know what people think !

when he said that he hoped he would be remembered for his contributions to the game, knowing full well the Materazzi thing was on everyone's minds

Oh dear, I had missed that. I hope he doesn't really think he won't be remembered for anything else ?!

Actually, when I think of the World Cup, the image that first comes to my mind is not the headbutt, it is this one

I was looking for a video of that supposed headbutt but can't find any. That bicycle kick goal was cool though. He seems to score quite a bit for being a defender (I think ... right?)
