I just came back from bubble tea with a bunch of people, everydaysushi among them. I had a coconut nectar drink with lychee cubes. Very tasty ^_^

When we met for tea, everydaysushi and her friend K had just come out of watching Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (hereon referred to as PotC and/or AWE). Not surprisingly, they didn't really like it, as a lot of people ( Read more... )

Um, WOW!!! Hahha... you know, I totally understand the whole swimming against the current of rants or raves. (I didn't think The Departed was AWESOME-SUPER-AWESOME as most did--I preferred the HK version.)

You know, my immediate visceral reaction during and directly after seeing AWE was that I did not like it. It was incomprehensible ("it" being the story AND/OR dialogue... I can't even tell which). But I've been thinking about the movie as whole, and it feels like there's something substantive there, which is why I feel like I want to see it again... if not in theatres, then at least on DVD. I read the Wikipedia entry which cleared up the various storylines and revealed many other interesting tidbits they pulled (the Kraken! totally missed it!) that really provided subtle texture. I think it came off as a mess to the casual moviegoer but at least there was that darker, historical/mythical edge. And that's about as much as I saw of it (the edge), so I'll have to spend time to reveal more... but according to you, it's very much worth it! :T

Hey, haven't been around LJ much lately... are you moved out yet? If so, hope the experience wasn't too hectic/painful. It was good to get together that night though. I always feel like I never see people who are really close by, until they're about to leave... just be sure to hop in and say hi when you come back to visit!
