Recently:
my grandfather passed away and I drove back and forth from bozeman to missoula to be with family and help out. the service was nice, it was at a senior center, there was table of pictures and things from his life. i didn't know that he lived for many years in a yacht in a harbor. he was a nice guy who moved to rural montana to be near his son and grandchildren. he will be missed.
in the process, the cv joints in my car's axles became worn to the point of making terrifying clunking noises while driving and turning. i had to leave the car in missoula to be fixed, and took a bus home (this was the weekend before thanksgiving). then i caught a ride with my friendly roomate to missoula while he was going to whitefish to visit his family.
i drove back to bozeman with a repaired car (thanks Mountain Imports, you rock!), and some stuff from my grandfather's house. a sewing machine, microwave, some nice family-crafted ceramic bowls. i passed on the handgun.
i also agreed to take the cat, of indeterminate gender, with no name. as it turns out she is very friendly. she really disliked the borrowed cat carrier she was in and scraped her nose to bleeding from thrashing around in it. i let her out at that point, and she yowled mournfully while sniffing around the car. she ended up on my lap and seemed more calm as i petted her. then she peed on me. not much to do really, but just get peed on. stay calm, freaking out wouldn't help. i pulled over at a truck stop, cleaned up and changed my pants. she was content to lie on my lap the rest of the way to bozeman.
she is a little skittish in her new home, and Mercy is terrorizing her less now that she's more used to her. she didn't have a name, so I named her Tamarin, because i liked it and her head reminds me of those monkeys with manes. she has long, soft, black fur. she is a good lap kitty, especially for cold wintery evenings. Mercy is used to sitting on my lap, though, and she has twice tried to jump up to my lap when Tamarin was there and a catsplosion resulted. i have not yet been injured by it, but the likelihood of future injury is high. i need bigger/more lap.
because of the wake and thanksgiving, i have been able to see a lot of my relatives that i don't usually see. it was really nice. i hope your peoples holidays are just as good.
