I got lost in Sheffield last night, twice... well, I say I, but I think it was mostly Dave's fault - the first time definitely was! Heehee! :P
We went to see Bowling for Soup at the O2 academy, & stayed over so Dave didn't have to drive back to Hull when it was late 'o clock. 'Twas very good... It's been forever since I went to a concert (Mika, back in 2007, apparently), I'd kind of forgotten how much I enjoy them. Concerts are the only times I can stand being in large crowds of people, like, right smack bang in the middle, being squashed between hundreds of people, having no choice but to put your arms in the air & jump along with everyone else there. There's something very satisfying about being one of several hundreds of people who are all chanting & singing the same words, in sync, at the top of their lungs.
Anyway, more specifically, the support acts weren't great (but, we managed to miss one of them), but, they were mildly bearable. BFS came on stage late... something about a medical emergency & having to wait for an ambulance, but, I don't know how the ambulance would have been affected by BFS being on stage? I kept thinking that, if they'd just left the lights low & played some random music, nobody would have been any the wiser & there'd have been no boo-ing. They were most definitely worth waiting for though! :D They sang lots of the older, more recognisable stuff (they did When We Die, which, I personally think is the dullest song they've ever made, but, it seemed to work pretty well live), and 3 or 4 songs from their new album... plus, a cover of Hot 'n' Cold by Katy Perry, which was rather fun! They were enthusiastic & had a really good rapport going with the audience and it was just, a really fun concert! But then, any gig where the band fully expects the entire audience to yell out the words "I'm gay" during one of their songs has got to be good!
My only qualm was that it didn't seem to last very long... they were on stage for just over an hour, I think - definitely less than an hour & a half, and it just, really wasn't long enough. They have 10 albums worth of songs, surely they can manage a little longer than an hour? It wasn't even long enough to make my ears ring, or for me to lose my voice... and I've been coughing & almost losing my voice for the past 2 weeks, without being near a concert.
I'm all hyped and ready for the next concert now! :D
