Well, after my little rant
last week, I was more than pleasantly surprised by this weeks movie.
We went to see Vicky Cristina Barcelona, I had been less than enthused to see it, until I found out that Scarlett Johanssen & Penelope Cruz kissed (I'm only a little bit shallow & fickle, honest :P), but it was actually a good movie.
It was a bit slow to start, & the constant narrating got annoying, but it was a good film, and the acting was decent and the characters were believable, and it told a story that related just a little bit to my life.
Actually, it was telling the story that L Word have been trying to tell from the beginning, but, it told it in a much less aggressive & much more relatable way - sexuality is fluid; affection and desire exists between people, any people, regardless of gender or sexuality. People connect and find love wherever they can, with whomever they can and it doesn't have to fit what society deems 'conventional' and it doesn't require a label... it just is what it is. And it wasn't pretentious or 'scandalous' about it; it wasn't billed as a taboo movie about a 3-way relationship... it was just an artsy little movie about a summer romance.
I was very impressed. I should have known that I'd be impressed when I saw that Antena 3 was one of the production companies (they're responsible for LHDP too).
I also have a new found respect for Scarlett Johanssen now... for being involved in the telling of this story & for acting and understanding the part so well, so naturally, so believably.
I may very well have to invest in the DVD once it's released.
