College life.

It's been a while since I've posted, mostly due to sheer laziness. Other than some personal conflicts, life is pretty good. Life at the Academy is interesting, to say the least. It still feels a little weird being in a school where you know everyone is artistic in one way or another. It's weird knowing that you're not the only person who knows how to use Photoshop. I'm still trying to get used to being able to be so close and personal with the professors, like calling them by their first name. My classes have 20 students at the very most, so there's a lot of student-teacher interaction.

My classes:
Design Technology - Mostly getting familiar with design software (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.)
Concept, Design, & Process - Learning the process of making a design and effectively communicating a message to the target audience.
Sketching for Communication - A fine arts-centered class. We learn all about drawing basically: perspective, color, shadow, story boards, shapes, etc.
Printmaking - Making prints from linoleum, etching, lithography, aquatint, etc.

My favorite class by far is Design Technology, but Printmaking would be my most fun class just because it's a very social class, so everyone is close. Although, I'm not too fond of the actual printmaking work. We've already finished linoleum prints and etching, and currently on aqua tinting. My favorite would probably be linoleum prints, just because it's not very fine arts-y. I can make simple, vectory prints like this.

I only have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but there's enough homework to keep me busy for a while. Anyone who has made layouts and graphics before knows how long it takes to design something, especially for multiple classes. But it's not so bad. I love designing, after all. I'm hoping that during the spring semester, I'll have some of the same classes as my new friends. They're really the best. Super fun people. I don't think I'd be able to survive each day of class without them around.

Even though it's only October, I feel like I should start saving up for Christmas. I even started planning some Christmas gifts and wrapping already. I've been looking for a job, but since I don't have any customer service/retail experience, it's a little difficult. I decided to start small at some retail place, but so far, I haven't had much luck. I'm scheduled for an interview at The Container Store on Tuesday night, so hopefully that goes well. I'm a big fan of The Container Store, so it'd be awesome if I get the job. Employee discount, anyone? Wish me luck!
