OK, this is my first post on the live journal. And I hope I can get a few answers.
I know many readers here are mothers. So let me tell you something that bothers me.
My son Joey, who is seven-year-old, is very afraid of dogs.
When he was born in 2003, we had a big hybrid German Shepard dog at home. Joey had absolute so problem with that, actually the third word he had (after mom and dad) is dog.
And I remember when he was around 2, he used to chased anything with four legs in the neighbored and called it 'dog'.
Then our dog died two years ago. Joey was really sad, we buried it in the backyard.
Now he is seven and he is scared of dogs now!
Several months ago I took him to the Boy Scout meeting at a friend's house and when he saw the dog (a small one) in the backyard (which is our meeting place) he refused to get in.
So I have to ask the hostess to take the dog inside.
Later when the kids were playing in the backyards somehow the dog got out and it wanted to play with Joey. The poor boy totally freaked out, ran for his life and cried tears and it took a while before I could calm him down.
Ever since that, every place we go he will ask 'Is there a dog over there?'
So if I bring him to a friend's house or something I have to call in advance in order to make sure there is no dog, or if there is one, it was put somewhere so Joey won't see it.
This began to catch my nerves, if you know what I mean. Joey liked dog a lot when he was little, we live in a nice neighborhood with top school zone and he has never met a mean dog, so why should he be afraid of dogs that much? And what should I do about it?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot
