Dear Yuletide Author

Thank you for writing for me!  Wherever you are, I hope you and everyone you love are safe and well.

Do not stress out about Yuletide.  I picked fandoms where I will truly be happy with anything I get.  If you have something you're itching to write, do that.  If you have an idea about the source that is different from mine, I would be interested to see that.  Have fun.

It's hard to write Dear Author letters!.  I spent so much time paring down my requests, I don't know what else I have to say.

I see I mentioned pairings a bit, but I'm not demanding any.  I love gen - plotty or worldbuilding or one character's internal musings.  I like gen relationships between characters - I have a love for friendships and partnerships between people who aren't romantically involved, proving you can love someone without wanting to sleep with them.  I also love het, slash, femslash and desperate unrequited longing, any rating, though I can't write and don't expect anything explicit if you're not comfortable with it.  With pairings, I especially like first times and moments or realization.

Things I like:  I love these fandoms in different ways and for different reasons.  Generally, I like humor, banter, dialogue, plot, worldbuilding, relationships between characters (not necessarily romantic), unreliable narrators or characters who understand less about what's going on than the reader, backstory, self-reflection or stories of secondary characters.

Things I don't like: Generally, I would ask that nothing be unremittingly grim.  I would be fine with dark and serious, and would not be surprised for characters in Double Indemnity or Neverwhere to meet a bad end, but would prefer either happy or hopeful endings if you can manage it, or someone to mourn them if you can't.  Also, since I invited Nazi's to Yuletide, I don't like explicit scenes of torture, or the heroes torturing anyone at all.

Holiday Stories:  I have no strong opinion about holiday stories.  If you want to write one, feel free.  You could expand it to mean any holiday.   I'd love to see what they do celebrate in the Neverwhere universe.

I do like crossovers and AU's.  I am not expecting one.  I brought them up as permission, not an order.   I'm not sure I've read any gender bender, but if you want to try it, go ahead.  Body swaps can be fun, though it might make more sense in I-Man or possibly Neverwhere than, say, Casablanca.

I would happily take dark/fluff/relationship or action adventure.  That is unhelpful, I know.  Really, though, 1000 words is enough for one scene, if you don't want to write me a novel.  I would be happy with that. Remember the part about having fun?

The Requests:

Casablanca

With all my requests, If you already have something you would like to write, feel free to go with that.  I like to see other people's ideas, especially in small fandoms.  With Casablanca, I love that this is finally about people doing the right thing in hard times, either in big, heroic ways or small unexpected ways.  I could use some unexpected decency.  That said, I do love the drama and the love triangles and "one last drink before the world explodes", so anything you want to do here will make me happy.  Rick and Louis and their beautiful friendship would be lovely, Gen or Slash.  So would anything about Ilsa, who has the hardest road even knowing what she wants to do, let alone what she should do.  Also, any story about Sam or Victor, Sasha, Yyonne or Carl, or any original or crossover character who walks into this bar at this time.  (Sam's Watcher Chronicles of Rick in a Highlander crossover would be the crackfic of my heart.)

Other possible prompts:  Tell me about Ilsa, Rick and Sam in Paris.  What does Louis make of Rick when he first arrives in Casablanca?  What do Ilsa and Victor say to each other on that plane ride out, or what is Victor thinking but doesn't say?

Double Indemnity

I love self-deceptive and unreliable narrators, manipulation and mind games - all the things I hate in real people, I love in fictional ones.  I love Phyllis being seductive and clever and Walter not being as clever as he thinks he is.  I love that the “good girl” who vainly tries to keep the hero on the straight and narrow is played by Edward G. Robinson and would love any exploration (Gen, Het, Slash, UST) of this good man who thinks everything can be predicted with actuarial tables.  I would also love Lola’s story, possibly of Phyllis attempting to win over or seduce her and why this failed so badly, or an AU in which it didn’t (though I’d rather she didn’t actually kill her father.)  Most of all, I love the wicked banter and would love you forever if you were brave enough to attempt it.  “I wonder if I know what you mean.”   “I wonder if you wonder.”

Other prompts:  How does Phyllis see herself?  What is her internal monologue?  Five times Phyllis lied and once when she didn't.  Phyllis and Walter, completely inconspicuous in their trench coats and dark glasses, scheming at the laundry, on the bus, at a petting zoo, while bored passersby listen.

Neverwhere

I just want to spend more time in this world, either in London Below or in any other city.  Original or crossover characters would be welcome, as would anyone from the book. Optional prompts:   How did the Marquis make himself into the amazing creature he is?  Is there any hope for Anesthesia, even in some transformed state? (Any chance a little rat-speaker knows how to hide?)   What if Richard’s fiancé got the perfect life she wanted, but her children have always had odd invisible friends?  Or tell me about the first week on the job of a transit worker, garbage hauler or soup kitchen volunteer. Are they back next week?

I hope this isn't giving you trouble.  I wasn't sure what to ask for, because I really would just like to see more of this place.  I would love to see some other city, but I'm afraid that is too much like asking for original fiction, which seems unfair.  I suppose Hunter and Door would travel a bit, by their natures, and any of the others might.  (The Croup and Vandemar world tour - I'm not sure I want to see that.)   Or tell me what lives at Elephant & Castle, Oxford Circus, Ravenscourt?  How does Richard get on in his new life?  Does the Marquis pick up strays often?

Invisible Man(TV 2000)

This is one of my ultimate comfort fandoms, and anything you write will make me happy.  Bobby and Darien, Gen or Slash, basically I just want them bickering in the van and looking out for each other.  I love Claire both as the friend and protector she was at the end and as the slightly sinister Keeper she was at the beginning.  (And though it breaks my slasher heart, I think she and Bobby would make a fascinating couple.)  I love Eberts and his Smithers-esque devotion to The Official, but I have a bit of an embarrassment squick, so don't treat him too badly.  Anything as dark as the show is fine but, please, no darker.

Other prompts:  Claire's case notes, annotated by the others.  Quicksilver-mad Darien breaks down fences that sane Darien has to mend, figuratively, or pay for, actually.  Bobby gets a promotion.  Claire gets a new patient.  A missing scene from any episode.  The transition when Bobby and Darien stop resenting each other and start trusting each other.
