Final Destination Remix.
I once read a blog/ movie review (can't remember) where someone remarked that Final Destination Trilogy should be renamed "Ways people die" and as the movies progressed they got more and more innovative, Death will stop at nothing before getting to us.
The events of the recent days triggered some strange emotion in me. Don't know what you call it though. Ways people die.. ways living beings die.
100 over people onboard US Air 1549 narrowly escaped death as it ditched safely in the Hudson River. Cause: A coordinated formation of birds decided to toast to their lives in the plane's engines. Survivors were thankful and how good it was to be alive.
About the same time, the toll of over a thousand people mostly from Gaza and a trickle from Israel perished in a three week war.
This morning, I was told a Japanese straight As student committed suicide because he got the first B of his life.
I could probably go on and on. After all, moment to moment, many people die.
What does it mean for those still living? You could;
1. Oh life is meaningless. Why bother?
2. Be diligent, do what you want to do to growth since you are here anyway.
3. A combination of the two above.
I think mine's number 3. Life, as we live it now, is fairly meaningless. Buying, consuming, entertaining, wasting. I think there is room for growth, so many ways to regard the people around you, so many ways of perceiving the circumstances we are in. When you see a guy/lady, do you just think how attractive he or she is? Or you could look at what he or she wears? Or you wonder what position in life he/ she's in? What roles he/she plays in his/her family, what are his / her aspirations, strengths and weaknesses? Is life your enemy, blocking you at every turn from reaching your greatness, or is it a thrilling windsurfing experience, waves carrying you up and down, to forseeable and unforseeable directions?
How to live your life? Well, we are our own drivers, no one else can take the drivers' seat. Our mind controls everything.
