Top 10 Angela Chang Songs

Feb 24, 2011 22:35

Thought this would be fun. I had a really difficult time narrowing it down though since she has so many fantastic songs.

10. Flower in the Wonderland (夢裡花)
-The strongest song on her fourth studio album and the only one from that album on this list. There is something mysterious about this song. The mix of the contemporary pop ballad with some more traditional qualities really give the song an extra edge. It almost reminds me of a Jpop, especially in the verses. Sorta reminiscent of Ayu's stuff from 01-05.

09. Nothing Keeps Me Calm (靜不下來)
-I was thinking of omitting this song from the top ten, but it is just too good to leave out. This is one of Angela's best pop songs. I found that at first it doesn't really stand out, but it certainly has a way of growing on you. It's insanely catchy and Angela's voice just works with it so well. I especially like the guitar riffs in the background, which give it a slight attitude.

08. Shout (吶喊)
-This song is effin amazing. It's pretty much a mix of pop/rock with some more traditional influences. It has this feeling to it that just brings you to another place. I really enjoy the explosive chorus that really highlights Angela's vocals. I don't think she's made a song like this in a long time, but she should.

07. Only Because of You (都只因為你)
-Another song from her debut album, this is one of her best ballads. It also utilizes an explosive chorus with a slight rock influence, but in a more tame way than the last song. The melody is slow, but still makes an impact. My favourite part is during the end when Angela shows off her range with the adlibs.

06. Aurora (歐若拉)
-This has been one of my favourite of Angela's song for some time. Like some of the other songs, it has a slight traditional twist to it. I think it's a good song to describe Mandopop around 04-06. It's feel is almost Jpop, but still very Cpop. Angela sounds exceptional here and she really knows how to use her voice with the awkward notes. My only problem was how crappy they made the CGI in the music video was.

05. Fable (寓言)
-My first Angela song and still one of my favourites. The song really has an edge and attitude to it that just fit Angela like a glove. I gotta admit that the use of the melody from an Xmas as the chorus was a bit odd, but they did make it work in some odd way. Angela needs more attitude like this on her next album.

04. Mama Mama
-This has been a favourite of mine since I got into Angela in early '05 and was one of the few songs then that I really enjoyed from her (was not into Cpop as much in those days). I really like the attitude in the song and the rapping by Angela is pretty funky. I also find the lyrics quite funny and I use phrases from it to annoy my mom.

03. White (白白的)
-When I first heard this song, I got so pumped for the album. After the disappointing Ang 5.0, this song really revitalized my love for Angela because it returned to the sound her ballads had on her first three albums. The best part of the song is definitely the striking chorus. Who ever thought of that melody really needs to make another song for her.

02. The Fifth Season (第五季)
-This is definitely my favourite song from her latest album and pretty much is as strong as White. I will give the previous one the strengths of the verses, but I think there is something of the chorus of this song that just catapult it. It's so powerful that it gives me goosebumps every time.

01. Really (真的)
-This song is amazing. I don't really know how to describe it well. It's like a mix of all the other ballads in this top ten put into one. I will admit that the song does start rather slow, but it's one of those that really builds up when it progresses. The ending is just phenomenal, especially when she hits that high note. I find this one of Angela's most emotional tracks as well.
